Mexican President: We Held a Security Meeting with FIFA – World Cup Security Is Guaranteed

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, President of Mexico, has stated that security for this year’s World Cup can be fully guaranteed.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. A major Mexican drug lord was recently killed, leading to outbreaks of violence in several Mexican cities, which has raised concerns about security in Mexico during this summer’s World Cup.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said on Wednesday:“The operation carried out collaboratively by the Ministry of Security, the Ministry of National Defense, the Navy, the National Intelligence Center and state police forces is extremely important, and in fact it has been in place for almost a year. Today we will hold a meeting with FIFA to discuss security issues and other related matters.”

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized:“Security is guaranteed. We have sufficient monitoring and inspection measures to ensure that no problems will arise. Let the World Cup be a peaceful event where visitors can fully enjoy themselves.”

Mexico will host 13 matches of this summer’s World Cup in three cities: Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara – with Guadalajara being one of the cities hardest hit by the recent violence in Mexico.Over 5 million visitors are expected to travel to Mexico during the World Cup.
